Research Interests (1)
- Remote Sensing and GIS Application of Environment and Disaster
Active Research Project (5)
- Asia-Rice Project: The project is initiated by the Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO). The objectives of the project are to monitor sustainable agricultural systems to ensure food security. The Task Group (TG) 5 of AOGEO particularly addresses SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). In the annual meeting of TG5 in AOGEO, participants representing different observation platforms and decision-support systems discuss the EO for regional food security in Asia and Oceania. Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) Space application for Environment (SAFE) rice crop project led by Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), and CH4Rice Project led by Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) with ISRO, JAXA, and other Asian space agencies initiated the multilateral research network in the region, in order to upgrade the observation systems for agriculture. The network should facilitate and accelerate the sharing of analysis-ready data and algorithms among member countries, the coordination of pilot activities, training, and capacity building. The outputs in TG5 will be reflected in the Global Agriculture Monitoring (GEO GLAM) project for the G20 action plan, especially the Asia-RiCE crop team activity in GEO GLAM and other international projects such as FAO and ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS).
- Carbon Trading from the Agriculture Sector in Bangladesh
- One Health One World
- The SAFE CH4Rice Project: The project is a Space Applications for Environment (SAFE) initiative of The Space Applications Working Group (SAWG), which is reorganized as the Satellite Applications for Societal Benefit Working Group (SAWG) to include “satellite navigation” in its scope of activities. It was formulated targeting environmental monitoring from the local scale to the regional, and finally to the global scale as a voluntary framework. The Asia Pacific Regional Space Forum (APASRAF) initiative, led by the Japan Aerospace Explorer Agency (JAXA) and the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC). The project objectives are to develop a methodology for CH4 emission estimation, monitoring, verification, and reporting with space technology. Currently, the project is implemented in Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesian rice paddy field sites. The University of Tokyo, led by Professor Wataru Takeuchi and Md Rahedul Islam from Pabna University of Science and Technology, is actively working on the project. The project is already simultaneously implemented in the countries and has found emerging success in developing satellite and sensor-based rice paddy field irrigation inundation and CH4 emission estimations.
